Irmgard Swanson, alto
Irmgard Swanson has been a member of CCA for over 35 years, having started with the group when it was known as The James Chorale. She loves singing the variety of music performed by CCA as well as the high quality that is the standard of its repertoire. The camaraderie of the singers is also a joy. Presently, Irmgard is one of the CCA librarians. In the past she served as a board member and as president.
Irmgard was born into a musical family, and music has remained a big part of her life. She, her parents, and three siblings sang, played piano, and played at least one band instrument. Irmgard has sung in various choirs throughout grade school, high school, college, church, and beyond including tours in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. She has taken voice lessons with Gail Friesema and Karen Brunssen.
Irmgard graduated from Concordia, River Forest, IL, with a major in education and a minor in music education. She received a Master’s in Science Education from Northern Illinois University. Irmgard taught in elementary schools for over 30 years but is now retired. She enjoys Sudoku, crossword puzzles, nature, travel, “puttering” in the yard, and spending time with her grandchildren.
