The Grande Dame of CCA (as far as the Webmaster is concerned), Joan Strom has been a member of the chorale since its first year as The James Chorale in 1975, as well as a Board member now and then. In addition to singing with CCA, she is the soprano section leader at an Episcopal Church in the suburbs.
A proud mother to three accomplished daughters, for 25 years Joan held the position of Surgical Technologist in the Cook County/Stroger Hospital operating rooms, where she specialized in Orthopedic Surgery. Currently, she is a part-time clinical instructor for the Surgical Technology program at Triton College, In addition to maintaining her own gardens, she volunteers at the Morton Arboretum, working with a new group of friends on the magnificent Schulenberg Prairie for a weekly dose of serenity.
In Joan’s words: “Classical music has been a major part of my life since I was a little girl growing up in Minnesota. (Mom was a piano teacher.) It has been my privilege to sing the finest repertoire with so many talented choral musicians and conductors in beautiful and historic venues, including some in Europe, so, if I may quote Robert Lowry: ‘My life flows on in endless song…'”
