Marybeth Kurnat, soprano
Marybeth became a member of both the Chicago Choral Artists and the St. Charles Singers for the 2016-17 season, jumpstarting her adventures as a professional choral singer. She has built her singing career on the foundation of her instrumental training as a jazz saxophonist, and her dynamic performing background is accompanied by a career in education and composing/arranging.
Marybeth is a native of DeKalb, IL, and collaborates often in her hometown’s performance community. She appears frequently both DeKalb High School’s choral program and the DeKalb Municipal Band as a soloist and arranger. She recently served as chorus master for the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra performance of Holst’s “The Planets” in October 2016, and performs seasonally as a soloist for DeKalb’s United Church of Christ. She has performed 7 leading roles in musical theater and opera since 2005, and also enjoys performing as a recitalist. Away from home, Marybeth has performed abroad as a choral musician in Canada as well as the UK, where she will be returning in June 2017 with the St. Charles Singers.
